WhatsApp is testing a new feature that limits the number of messages that private users or companies can send to unknown people who do not respond, in order to combat spam.

The exact threshold of messages after which blocking occurs has not been officially communicated, but before blocking, the user will be shown a warning with the number of messages sent. The feature only targets messages to unknown contacts that do not receive a response.

The parent company, Meta Platforms, states that most regular users will not reach the limits and will not be affected. The new restriction will be tested in several countries in the coming weeks.

Users are also advised to enable privacy settings, to block or report suspicious spam accounts.
