The U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, announced that the American government is considering relaxing sanctions on a larger quantity of Russian oil, in the context of significant increases in global prices. The war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran has disrupted energy markets, and the price of crude oil has increased by 8.5% in a single day. Bessent emphasized that lifting sanctions could create an oil supply in the market, without affecting the restrictions imposed on Russia due to the war in Ukraine. Recently, the U.S. authorized India to purchase Russian oil in transit, and transactions will be allowed until April 3, 2026. The Kremlin's economic advisor stated that discussions with the U.S. on this matter are ongoing.
