The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington has decided to vacate the plea agreement for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, postponing his trial before a military tribunal. The decision reinstates the authority of former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who had overturned previously agreed plea deals. The judges argued that Austin had the legal authority to revoke the agreements, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the process for the families of the victims of the September 11 attacks. Mohammed, considered the main perpetrator of the attacks, remains the best-known detainee at Guantanamo Bay.
