In his speech at the opening of the autumn session of parliament, Viktor Orban emphasized that Hungary will not allow itself to be involved in war through the EU, stating that Ukraine's accession would have devastating economic consequences. Orban criticized "pro-war states" and mentioned that Hungary firmly opposes any action that could turn the EU into a militarized entity. He warned that Ukraine's integration could transform Hungary from a net beneficiary into a net contributor to the EU budget, thus affecting the local economy.
