The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban published an open letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing Ukraine of blocking the Druzhba oil pipelines, essential for Hungary's energy supply.

Orban claims that Ukraine has tried to force Hungary to get involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, benefiting from the support of Brussels and the Hungarian opposition. He called for a change in Ukraine's anti-Hungarian policy and the reopening of the Druzhba pipeline, emphasizing that Hungary does not want to participate in the war and does not want to pay more for energy. Tensions between Ukraine and Hungary have increased, with Hungary and Slovakia accusing Ukraine of delaying the resumption of oil deliveries for political reasons. Additionally, Hungary threatened to stop electricity and gas exports to Ukraine, although it later stated that it would not suspend these exports.

Orban also blocked the sanctions package against Russia in the EU and a loan for Ukraine, maintaining close relations with the Kremlin.

A recent report suggests that Hungary does not depend on Russian oil, having other sources available.
