The U.S. Department of Defense announced the seizure of the oil tanker Aquila II in the Indian Ocean, accusing it of violating the restrictions imposed by the Trump administration on transfers of oil in the Caribbean, specifically targeting Venezuela and Cuba. The Pentagon stated that American forces acted without incident, tracking and intercepting the vessel during an operation.

Aquila II is the eighth ship seized by the U.S. since the blockade was implemented in December, and this represents the second capture outside the Caribbean region. Washington has increased its military presence in the Caribbean to intercept vessels suspected of links to drug trafficking and to enforce sanctions. However, the total number of ships under sanctions globally could reach 800, according to estimates from U.S. officials.
