Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, emphasized the need for a sustainable diplomatic solution to the crisis in Iran, in the context of the current instability. She expressed the EU's support for the Iranian people's right to determine their future and called for de-escalation of the conflict, condemning Iran's recent attacks, including a drone attack on a British base in Cyprus and on Saudi Aramco's oil facilities.
Von der Leyen insisted on the importance of a credible transition for Iran, which should include the suspension of nuclear and ballistic programs. She also announced a meeting of the Security College to discuss the consequences of these events. The meeting of EU ministers for European affairs was postponed due to the attack on the base in Akrotiri, Cyprus, which caused minimal damage. This situation has arisen against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran and its allies, including recent attacks on several countries in the region.
