The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called for a 'credible transition' in Iran, following the death of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei, during American-Israeli attacks. She emphasized that Khamenei's disappearance offers new hope for the Iranian people, but also risks of instability that could lead to a spiral of violence in the region.

Von der Leyen urged that the future of Iran be shaped by its own people and highlighted the need to end the military program and ballistic missiles. EU foreign ministers met to discuss the crisis, and the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, described Khamenei's death as a decisive moment in Iran's history. NATO announced adjustments in the positioning of forces to respond to threats in the region.
