Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, acknowledged that Europe has not invested enough in the Arctic and Arctic security, emphasizing that it is time to intensify efforts in this area. Her statements came in the context of tensions with American President Donald Trump, who expressed a desire to take over Greenland, citing security reasons related to Russia and China.

Von der Leyen proposed strengthening cooperation with the USA and close collaboration with the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, and Iceland, considering it a geopolitical necessity. She also highlighted the importance of investments in equipment adapted to Arctic conditions, including a European icebreaker. The European Commission intends to double financial support for Greenland in the next budget, and a substantial investment package will be presented soon.
