The UN Security Council will meet on Sunday to discuss Israel's widely contested plan to expand military operations in Gaza. The UN secretary-general's spokesman warned that the plan was a dangerous escalation, while the leader of the European Council underlined the possible consequences for EU-Israel relations. In Israel, the IDF estimates that it would need 200,000 troops to take Gaza City, which would mean recalling tens of thousands of reservists.
