President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Olha Reshetilova as the first military ombudsman of Ukraine, one month after the adoption of the law that establishes this position. Reshetilova, former presidential commissioner for military personnel rights, will handle complaints, initiate inspections, and propose policies to protect soldiers' rights. She has already reported over 7,000 complaints regarding abuses in the military, in the context where Ukraine is facing increasing issues related to military service, including over 290,000 cases of unauthorized absence and desertion.
