The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the largest religious community in Ukraine, is facing a government investigation that could lead to the loss of its legal status. The 2024 law prohibits organizations linked to the Russian church, and the UOC has been accused of not taking sufficient measures to distance itself from Moscow. If banned, the Church will no longer be able to use state-owned properties. The government claims that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a branch of an aggressor state, while the UOC asserts that it has declared independence from Moscow. The dispute has generated international controversy and concerns regarding religious freedom.
