Ukraine is seeking a license from the United States to produce Patriot interceptor missiles, but there are concerns from American manufacturers, such as Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, that Ukrainians could improve the system and manufacture it faster and cheaper.
President Zelensky discussed this issue with Donald Trump, and American officials express their reservations regarding intellectual property. However, Ukraine has demonstrated remarkable production capacity, manufacturing 10 million drones annually, compared to 100,000 in the U.S. This transformation of the Ukrainian defense industry is turning it from a beneficiary into a supplier of military technology. Although Ukraine could produce Patriot missiles for its own needs and for allies, it remains dependent on American support in intercepting ballistic missiles. Despite the challenges, Ukraine's production capacity could become an advantage for the U.S., turning it into a valuable long-term ally.
