Ukraine denied on Sunday any involvement in the placement of explosives found in Serbia, near the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, which transports Russian gas to Hungary. A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on social media platform X that Ukraine has no connection to this incident and suggested that it could be a false flag operation orchestrated by Russia, considering the elections that will take place in Hungary.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban convened an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Council, accusing Ukraine of sabotage against the pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that this incident aligns with the actions of Ukrainians to disrupt Russian gas supplies to Europe.

Orban emphasized that Ukraine's claims represent a threat to Hungary's energy security. In contrast, his opponent, Peter Magyar, suggested that the incident could be a setup by Orban to regain his popularity. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the discovery of two large packages of explosives in northern Serbia, near Hungary.
