The Alfa special operations center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a long-range drone attack on a Russian Lukoil oil and gas extraction platform in the Caspian Sea. According to SBU sources, at least four impacts were recorded on the offshore platform, leading to the cessation of oil and gas processing at over twenty wells. This is Ukraine's first attack on Russian interests in the Caspian Sea, a strategically important area for Russia.
On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Ukraine conducted one of the largest drone attacks in the war with Russia, and the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the downing of 287 drones. The aim of these attacks is to reduce the Kremlin's revenue from oil exports, which are essential for financing the war.
Ukrainian drones have also recently attacked ships from Russia's phantom fleet in the Black Sea, leading to increased shipping insurance prices and fears of escalation of the conflict.
