Ukraine signed a contract with Sweden on Tuesday for the purchase of 16 Gripen E fighter jets, valued at approximately 2.22 billion euros. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that this step will strengthen the country's combat aviation.
Manufacturer Saab announced that deliveries will begin in 2029-2030 and will include spare parts and associated equipment. During a previous visit to Sweden, Zelensky mentioned the intention to purchase up to 20 Gripen E aircraft, and Sweden promised to donate 16 older C/D jets to support Ukraine's air defense, which will be delivered in 2027. Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson emphasized the importance of this agreement for the security of Ukraine and Europe.
