Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiga accused Hungary of having "taken hostage" seven employees of the state bank Oschadbank in Budapest. They were in a vehicle transporting 35 million euros and 9 kg of gold between Austria and Ukraine. Sybiga demanded the immediate release of his compatriots, denouncing Hungary's actions as "terrorism and state blackmail." Oschadbank confirmed that its vehicles are being held in central Budapest, but the condition of the employees is unknown. The Hungarian government has not commented on the situation. Hungary has been criticized for its close ties with Russia, blocking EU sanctions against Moscow and demanding conditions for financial aid to Ukraine.
