The agreement will strengthen the Royal Navy's continuous deterrence capabilities and support the AUKUS defense pact with the US and Australia. The new contract, dubbed 'Unity', will also support work on the 'Dreadnought' class of nuclear submarines, which are currently being built by BAE Systems. The government estimates the deal with Rolls-Royce will create 1,000 jobs and protect a further 4,000.
