At the UK-France summit, leaders Macron and Starmer will seek to finalize agreements on economic growth and illegal migration. They agreed on the need to tackle illegal crossings across the English Channel with common solutions, including deterring the activities of smugglers. In 2024, more than 37,000 migrants crossed the channel, and differences persist between the two countries on tackling the problem, with the UK calling on France to step up prevention measures.
