The UK and Germany are set to sign a wide-ranging defense treaty that will include a mutual assistance clause in the event of threats. The pact, initiated by prime minister Keir Starmer and former chancellor Olaf Scholz, emphasizes cooperation in security and economics. The document, expected to be signed on 17 July, will address not only defense, but also migration and cross-border trade, amid a greater desire for European defense collaboration amid the US withdrawal from transatlantic alliances.
