The authorities in the United Arab Emirates have decided to adopt a more flexible approach regarding tax residency for expatriates who have left the country due to the conflict in the region, including the tensions generated by the conflict in Iran. The measure aims to facilitate the return of affected residents and protect the advantageous tax status they benefit from. Expatriates will be able to remain abroad longer without losing their tax residency status, in the context of travel disruptions and canceled flights. Normally, to be considered tax residents, expatriates must spend 183 days a year in the UAE. The relaxation of the rules is crucial for expatriates, as losing tax status could lead to higher taxes in their home countries. This decision comes against the backdrop of attacks in the region, which have caused many expatriates to leave the Emirates for safety reasons.
