Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched two missiles at Aden International Airport on Wednesday morning, the main point of air access to areas of the country outside the group’s control. No casualties were reported, according to Aden’s security department.
The attack comes after clashes resumed between the Iran-allied rebels and government forces backed by Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have made advances in recent weeks along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, while government troops have launched a counteroffensive and recaptured territory near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, with air support from the Saudi-led coalition.
Also on Wednesday, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward the city of Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. According to the coalition, the projectiles were launched from Sanaa and the governorates of Saada and Amran. Al Masirah channel later reported a Saudi attack in areas of Ibb and Taiz, without immediate confirmation from the coalition.
