Yuance Chen and Liren "Ryan" Lai have been charged with spying on behalf of the Chinese government, including photographing military bases and coordinating the transfer of money. The case, recently declassified, underscores China's active efforts to obtain information about US military capabilities. Authorities allege that the two attempted to recruit members of the military and carried out missions without registering as foreign agents, in violation of the law.
