Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the seizure of 825 kg of heroin and the arrest of 30 traffickers in operations in cities including Adana and Istanbul. Police also seized unlicensed weapons and digital equipment. Turkey, located on smuggling routes between Asia and Europe, is a key hub for heroin trafficking, which remains the most widely consumed illicit opioid in the European Union. Europol's 2024 analysis shows an increase in the use of maritime routes by traffickers.
