Turkey has launched checks at currency exchange offices and ATMs to reduce the damage caused by the circulation of counterfeit dollars.

The central bank announced that it is working with the judicial authorities to tackle the counterfeiting problem, distributing a report and guidance to lenders. While the exact number of counterfeit notes in circulation is not known, banking sources said that several bureaux de change and banks are no longer accepting some US notes.
