Turkey and South Korea have signed an agreement to jointly build a nuclear power plant.

Turkey and South Korea are discussing the joint construction of a nuclear power plant, an important step in Ankara's strategy to diversify energy sources.

The Turkish Minister of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated that Seoul and Korea Electric Power Corporation will present a binding proposal to advance negotiations, with the aim of making a decision this year. Additionally, Turkey is collaborating with Electricite de France SA for a memorandum of understanding regarding small modular reactors. Turkey, a key player in the transit of natural gas between Central Asia and Europe, is seeking to reduce its dependence on energy imports. Alongside the planned nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast, Turkish authorities are analyzing investments in oil and gas fields in Canada and intensifying oil exploration in the Black Sea, including a partnership with Shell. The new nuclear power plant will join another plant being built by Rosatom, scheduled to become operational by the end of the year.
