American President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that reclassifies cannabis, removing it from the category of extremely dangerous substances, such as heroin, and placing it alongside common analgesics. This measure has the potential to facilitate research and relax existing restrictions, although it does not effectively legalize marijuana. Trump emphasized that many Americans suffer from severe pain and that this action has been requested by patients for decades. Although cannabis will remain illegal at the federal level, the reclassification acknowledges its medicinal value. The order comes in the context of changing views on cannabis, both from the Republican administration and the Democratic one. However, the measure has faced opposition from some Republican senators and conservative organizations, which argue that facilitating the marijuana industry contradicts economic interests and public health.
