These statements were made after a meeting with Danish and Greenlandic officials, who agreed to form a working group to discuss issues related to the island. Denmark and Greenland categorically rejected the idea of Greenland being sold, considering it a violation of sovereignty. Trump suggested that NATO would be stronger with Greenland under U.S. control, and the meeting was seen as an opportunity to defuse tensions.

Greenlandic leaders emphasized unity with Denmark, stating that it is not the time to discuss independence. A recent poll shows that the majority of Americans oppose the purchase of Greenland and the use of military force in this regard.
