The American president Donald Trump stated that the nuclear agreement the U.S. is negotiating with Iran will be "much better" than the 2015 Iranian Nuclear Agreement (JCPOA), from which Washington withdrew in 2018. Trump wrote on social media that he is not under pressure, but that everything will happen quickly.
The Democratic opposition and nuclear experts express concern about the haste of the negotiations. After the withdrawal from the JCPOA, the U.S. reinstated sanctions, and Iran began to violate its commitments. The U.S.-Iran negotiations had a failed first round, and Pakistan is acting as a mediator for a second round.
The discussions focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and managing highly enriched uranium. The 2015 agreement required two years of negotiations, involving numerous specialists. It remains unclear how a new agreement will be achieved in such a short timeframe.
