In an interview with the New York Post, American President Donald Trump stated that he opposes the recognition of Somaliland by the United States. This statement came in the context of Israel officially recognizing Somaliland, a self-proclaimed republic that has separated from Somalia, which could facilitate Israel's access to the Red Sea.
Trump responded negatively to the question about the recognition of Somaliland, adding that there are people who do not really understand what this region represents. Israel's recognition has sparked outrage in Mogadishu and in other countries in the region, which believe that this act could create instability.
