In April, the Trump administration slashed more than half of federal funding for gun violence prevention programs, eliminating 69 of 145 grants aimed at community violence intervention totaling $158 million. The measure was part of a broader $811 million cut affecting various public safety programs. The CVI grants, originally funded through the bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022, were intended to combat the rise in gun violence, and the cuts come at a critical time when gun incidents are frequent.
