During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, American President Donald Trump confused Iceland with Greenland, mentioning the name Iceland four times in the context of his intention to annex Greenland. Trump stated that NATO "loved me" until he mentioned Iceland and claimed that stock market declines were caused by Iceland, even though the island he is targeting is Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory.

Although he promised not to use force to annex Greenland, he stated that the United States is the only power capable of defending this territory, accusing Denmark of "ingratitude" and emphasizing the strategic importance of the Arctic region. Trump also mentioned that Greenland is rich in mineral resources, which has generated his constant interest in this island.
