President Donald Trump has said the United States should not obey NATO's requirement to spend 5% of GDP on defense, pointing out that the US has already invested heavily in security. His comments come after the Spanish prime minister criticized the 5% threshold as unreasonable. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has also proposed increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP, split into 3.5% for defense and 1.5% for related investments.
