President Donald Trump announced that no U.S. government official will attend the G20 summit in South Africa, scheduled for the end of this month, citing human rights violations in the country. The South African Foreign Ministry called the decision "regrettable" and rejected Trump's claims regarding the persecution of white Afrikaners. Trump stated that Afrikaners are being killed and that their farms are being illegally confiscated, emphasizing that he will not accept participation as long as these abuses continue. Additionally, Vice President JD Vance, who was set to attend, will no longer travel to Johannesburg. The South African ministry stated that the allegations of oppression are unfounded and expressed confidence in the country's ability to promote solidarity at the G20. This is not the first time that American officials have boycotted events in South Africa, and the U.S. is set to take over the G20 presidency in 2026.
