Donald Trump has announced the deployment of federal forces in Democratic-ruled Chicago and New York to fight crime. He claims Washington is "overwhelmed by violent gangs" and has placed the National Guard under his authority. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser disputes Trump's claims, saying the crime rate is at its lowest level in three decades. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized the president's intention, pointing out that people are not demanding authoritarian control over cities.
