President Donald Trump announced Tuesday a $6.6 billion investment in partnership with Anduril Industries, a U.S. company specializing in artificial intelligence and defense technology. The project calls for the construction of a plant in Maryland, where components for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines will be produced.
The U.S. Navy will contribute $2.9 billion, while Anduril will invest an additional $3.7 billion in the Arsenal-2 shipyard. Autonomous submarines and torpedo-launch tubes are also expected to be manufactured there.
The agreement has renewed attention on possible conflicts of interest, as 1789 Capital, a firm in which Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, invested $2.5 billion in Anduril in June 2025. The company subsequently received 135 government contracts worth approximately $1.8 billion.
According to ABC News, defense industry companies backed by the president’s sons have secured active or promised contracts worth more than $6 billion following the investments. Congressional Democrats have called for a Pentagon review of these awards. Representatives of the Trump family maintain that the investments are independent and that the brothers do not influence government decisions.
