American President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth discussed the withdrawal of some troops from Romania during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Trump explained that the Pentagon does not ignore its commitments and that the withdrawal is part of a redistribution of troops, maintaining a constant number. Hegseth emphasized that this decision was coordinated with NATO and allied partners. Last week, the Pentagon announced a reduction of 800 soldiers from an infantry brigade, affecting Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria, leaving approximately 1,000 military personnel in Romania. This decision has been contested by several members of Congress, who believe that the withdrawal could send the wrong message to Moscow. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte downplayed the concerns, stating that troop movements are normal and that NATO can provide additional support to Romania if necessary.
