A driver from Spain was sentenced to one year in prison for diverting 12.5 tons of chocolate, fraudulently sold for 1,200 euros.

A truck driver from Alicante, Spain, was sentenced to one year in prison for diverting 12.5 tons of chocolate, valued at over 113,000 euros, which he sold for just 1,200 euros. The events took place at the beginning of 2021, when the driver, employed by a transport company, loaded the goods in Zaragoza but did not deliver them to the destination. Instead, he contacted a businessman in Alicante and sold the goods at a significantly lower price than their actual value. The buyer paid in cash, without verifying the legal origin of the products.

The police intervened after the complaint from the affected company, recovering the goods and returning them to the transport company. The driver admitted to the facts, and the businessman claimed that he believed the goods belonged to the driver. The court rejected his explanations, considering that he was aware of the illegal origin of the goods.
