A tragic accident took place in Santa Catarina, Brazil, where a hot-air balloon carrying 21 people caught fire in midair and crashed. Eight people died and 13 survived. Witnesses described scenes of panic, with people jumping out of the balloon to escape the flames. The pilot, who was among the survivors, said the fire was caused by a spare torch. State governor Jorginho Mello expressed his dismay at the incident.
