On Saturday morning, a car fleeing from the police crashed at high speed into a crowded bar in the historic Ybor City neighborhood of Tampa, causing the death of 4 people and injuring another 11. The incident occurred after the police observed the vehicle driving recklessly on a highway, and an attempt to stop it failed. The driver lost control and hit more than 12 people in front of the bar.
Three victims died on the spot, and the fourth died at the hospital. The victims are all adults, and the condition of five of them is variable. The suspect, Silas Sampson, 22 years old, has been arrested and is facing four charges of vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing. The mayor of Tampa, Jane Castor, expressed condolences and announced that the investigation is ongoing.
