On December 17, three Russian border guards crossed into Estonia without permission, according to reports from the Estonian Ministry of the Interior. Igor Taro, the Minister of the Interior, stated that it is unclear whether the incident was intentional, but emphasized that there are no threats to national security. The incident occurred in eastern Estonia, at the Narva River, which separates Estonia from Russia. Russian border guards crossed the control line but returned to Russian territory after about 20 minutes.

Following this incident, the Estonian border police have intensified patrols, and Estonian officials have scheduled a meeting with Russian representatives. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon a Russian envoy to discuss the incident. Estonia has reported a series of similar provocations in recent months, including suspected air incursions by Russia in the Baltic region.
