The national television stations from Ireland, Spain, and Slovenia have decided to boycott this year's Eurovision Contest, refusing to broadcast it due to Israel's participation. RTV Slovenia has confirmed that it will not send a representative and will instead broadcast a series of films about Palestine, including documentaries.
RTVE from Spain reiterated that it will not broadcast Eurovision for the first time since 1961, and RTÉ from Ireland previously announced that it would not participate. The Netherlands and Iceland have withdrawn but will broadcast the contest. The boycott decisions are a reaction to Israel's behavior in the Gaza war. Eurovision, scheduled for May 12-16 in Vienna, will have 35 participating countries but is facing controversies related to politics and government-influenced promotion. Organizers have introduced new rules to limit political influence over the votes.
