The Vice President of the USA, JD Vance, has begun a two-day visit to Israel, aimed at stabilizing the fragile ceasefire in Gaza. Landing at Ben Gurion Airport, Vance will visit the US-supported forces created to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire agreement. He will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog to discuss regional challenges.
In the context of Israel and Hamas accusing each other of ceasefire violations, Vance joins other American officials in efforts to promote a lasting agreement, which includes the disarmament of Hamas and measures to create a Palestinian state. Meanwhile, Hamas is meeting with mediators in Cairo to discuss stabilizing the ceasefire. Although humanitarian aid has begun to reach Gaza, conditions remain critical, and violence continues around the "yellow line" of demarcation.
