The United States has announced the sale to Taiwan of an advanced air defense system, NASAMS, valued at nearly 700 million dollars, marking the second arms package delivered to Taipei in a week. Previously, the U.S. stated that Taiwan would receive three NASAMS systems as part of a 2 billion dollar sale. These systems, tested in combat in Ukraine, provide significant air defense capability, currently used only by Australia and Indonesia in the region. The Pentagon confirmed that a contract has been signed for the acquisition of NASAMS units, with completion estimated in February 2031. Additionally, the U.S. recently approved the sale of fighter jets to Taiwan, which has generated mixed reactions, with gratitude from Taipei and anger from Beijing. Taiwan is strengthening its armament to face threats from China, which claims the island. Although the U.S. does not have official diplomatic relations with Taiwan, it is legally obligated to provide defense means, which constantly provokes China's discontent.
