The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced the completion of an operation to remove enriched uranium from the RV-1 reactor in Venezuela, a reactor that has supported nuclear research for decades.
The NNSA team safely removed 13.5 kilograms of uranium, packaging it in a special container and transporting it overland to a Venezuelan port. The material was then transported to the United States, arriving on American shores in early May. Upon arrival, the uranium was taken to the Savannah River Site for processing and reuse.
This action was coordinated with the International Atomic Energy Agency and was carried out in the context of a broader operation ordered by President Trump. NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams emphasized the importance of this action as a signal of restoration for Venezuela.
