Michael Kratsios, the principal advisor for science and technology to the U.S. president, stated that the administration is analyzing measures to hold accountable the actors involved in the systematic copying of American innovations, especially by entities from China. These campaigns use sophisticated techniques, including proxy accounts and methods to circumvent restrictions, to access proprietary information about artificial intelligence models.
The 'distillation' process allows for the development of smaller models based on the original systems, but authorities warn that unauthorized use of these techniques can compromise the security and integrity of products. Kratsios emphasized that, although these models may seem comparable to the originals, they can eliminate essential safety protocols.
The U.S. administration is committed to informing companies in the field of artificial intelligence about these practices and to exploring measures to counter unauthorized activities.
