Scott Bessent stated that the expansion of sanctions against Russia could force negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine. His comments come after a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, which resulted in loss of life. European leaders, including Donald Tusk and Ursula von der Leyen, have called for stronger measures against Moscow, emphasizing that support for Ukraine must be intensified and additional sanctions imposed.
