An American military official declared on Tuesday that the United States has not transferred the THAAD missile defense system from South Korea, despite recent information suggesting that certain components may have been relocated to the Middle East.

The Washington Post reported last month about the dismantling of some elements of the THAAD system in Seongju, which sparked discontent from South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, considering the importance of this system in national defense against nuclear threats from North Korea. The commander of U.S. forces in South Korea, Xavier Brunson, emphasized that the THAAD system remains active on the peninsula and that current transfers refer to munitions, without affecting defense capabilities. The South Korean Ministry of Defense assured that it is prepared to face threats from the North, even in the context of the relocation of some American military resources. The U.S. maintains approximately 28,500 troops in South Korea.
