The withdrawal was decided following the destruction of Ukrainian shelters and fortifications by Russian artillery. Fighting continues near the town of Huliaipole, where Ukrainian forces are facing the Russians for control of the villages of Iablukove, Rivnopilia, and Sodolke. Military observers have reported a breakthrough of the front by Russia, which has claimed the capture of several objectives.
