The Ukrainian army has confirmed the withdrawal from five villages in the Zaporozhye region, southern Ukraine, after intense fighting with Russian forces. The withdrawal was decided following the destruction of Ukrainian shelters and fortifications by Russian artillery. Fighting continues near the town of Huliaipole, where Ukrainian forces are facing the Russians for control of the villages of Iablukove, Rivnopilia, and Sodolke. Military observers have reported a breakthrough of the front by Russia, which has claimed the capture of several objectives. For over three and a half years, Ukraine has resisted the Russian invasion, and in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, Ukrainian forces are gradually retreating under the ongoing pressure from Russia.
