According to the Kyiv Post publication, the Donald Trump administration is preparing to withdraw 'thousands of American soldiers' from Romania, based on information provided by three American and European officials. This decision was communicated to Western allies at the beginning of the week, and an official announcement is expected in the coming days. Although initial discussions included troop reductions in Romania and Poland, the final decision only concerns Romania, with a reduction estimated to be no more than one battalion.

The reason for this reduction is part of a broader Pentagon strategy to concentrate resources in the Western Hemisphere and counter China's influence in the Pacific. Retired Colonel Richard Williams emphasized that there is no obvious tactical reason for the withdrawal of soldiers from Romania, in the context of the tensions generated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Currently, approximately 2,000 American troops are stationed in Romania, and President Trump has assured that troops in Poland will not be reduced, promising a potential increase in military presence in that country.
